Shared Research at the Solutions Scholars Showcase

May 10, 2024

The 2023/2024 Solutions Scholars have been continuing their solutions-focused research and presented their progress at the Climate Solutions Scholars Summit on April 18, 2024!

This event brought graduate Solutions Scholars from both UBC Okanagan and Vancouver into conversation with UBC’s climate community, to foster connection and shared learning across disciplines.

After light conversation over tea and refreshments, the Scholars took turns presenting a brief summary of their research and its progress. Within the broader topics of wildfires, extreme heat, and urban transformations, the audience learned about research related to raptor habitat, personal mobility devices, Indigenous cultural burning, and more. UBC students, faculty, and community members then had the opportunity to ask questions to the Solutions Scholars.

After all the presentations, each Solution Scholar led a round table discussion. Audience members could move from table to table to discuss the researcher's findings, ask questions, and offer feedback for the research’s completion over the next four months. This provided the opportunity for discussion across disciplines, such as discussing both the ecological role that small urban spaces can play, as well as how they can be implemented through non-profit or local government structure.

The Climate Solutions Research Collective looks for opportunities to bring people together to build community learning and create meaningful climate solutions. Thank you to everyone who attended this event!

The 2023/2024 Solutions Scholars will wrap up their research over the next few months, giving way to the 2024/2025 Solutions Scholars, who will work on four proposed climate solutions projects. Stay tuned for updates on graduate student eligibility criteria, and sign up for our newsletter to see when applications open!
