UBCO Climate Café: Student Perspectives on Climate Justice in the follow-up from COP28

March 14, 2024, 11:00 am to 12:00 pm

ART 368 - Institute for Community Engaged Research, UBCO

Join us at UBC Okanagan for a transformative Climate Café event centered on Climate Justice in the follow-up from the latest Conference of the Parties (COP).  This event will be hosted by UBC students who attended COP28 in November 2023. This event is for those who are passionate about understanding and addressing the intersections of climate change, equity, and social justice. We invite students, faculty, community members, and activists to come together to share insights, learnings, and reflections on how climate negotiations and actions impact communities differently across the globe.

Our Climate Café will delve deep into the principles of climate justice, exploring how we can foster a global response to climate change that is fair, equitable, and inclusive. Through a series of engaging discussions, interactive sessions, and personal storytelling, participants will have the opportunity to examine the challenges and opportunities in implementing justice-centered climate solutions.

The focus of the event is to create a space for critical dialogue on how to ensure that the fight against climate change also addresses systemic inequalities, supports vulnerable populations, and promotes access to sustainable development for all. We aim to empower attendees with knowledge, perspectives, and tools to advocate for a justice-driven approach to environmental action.  Expect an inspiring and collaborative atmosphere, where diverse voices and experiences contribute to a richer understanding of what climate justice means and how it can be achieved.

Refreshments will be provided to encourage an informal and comfortable setting for everyone to engage and connect.  Please bring your own mug wherever possible.  Don't miss this chance to be part of a community dedicated to making climate justice a core part of our collective journey toward a sustainable and equitable planet. Join us at UBC Okanagan to contribute, learn, and be inspired to act for a just climate future.

Let us know you are coming so that we can ensure enough coffee!
Please bring your own mug wherever possible.
