Livable Cities Forum: Indigenous Knowledge and Climate Action

October 25, 2024, 9:00 am to 10:00 am

Multisolving involves collaborating to address multiple challenges with a single action, maximizing benefits without increasing budgets or resources. When applied to climate action, this strategic approach can be used to achieve climate goals while considering diverse perspectives for more equitable solutions. Join the Livable Cities Forum at the Westin Bayshore in Vancouver, British Columbia, on the unceded and traditional territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) Nation, and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation from Oct. 23 to 25, 2024 to explore how to build net zero, resilient, and equitable communities through a multisolving lens.

Commemoration of this continent’s tragic and painful history and its ongoing impacts is a crucial component of the reconciliation process and one that Livable Cities endeavours to build into its work to foster low carbon, climate resilient communities. In the Indigenous Knowledge and Climate Action plenary, an overview of the report “From Risk to Resilience: Indigenous Alternatives to Climate Risk Assessment in Canada” will set the stage for a panel discussion on working closely with Indigenous communities to incorporate essential knowledges into policy-making and environmental strategies. Learn from Hetxw’ms Gyetxw (Brett Huson) and PICS’ Janna Wale during this interactive discussion that will be moderated by Ewa Jackson.
