Knowledge Exchange Stream

The activities identified in the proposal must: 

• Be clearly climate-solutions focused; 

• Engage a group of participants rather than a single individual;  

• Result in a deliverable (i.e. white paper, arts-based resource, etc.) related to the proposed activities; 

• Identify how the applicant will establish new collaborations; and 

• Contribute to new research or engagement activities (including being used to communicate existing research in novel ways). 

Additionally, projects must articulate a connection to national and/or international issues. For example, if a meeting is focused on a local issue, how does this relate to broader national or international opportunities for climate solutions? 

The funding cannot be used for: 

• Add-ons to existing projects unless there is a new, clear direction which is not included in the existing funding structure;  

• Funding existing collaborations unless there is a new, clear direction; 

• Course development;  

• Teaching buyouts; 

• Travel that does not have a clear connection to research and engagement; or 

• Stand-alone events without an intention for further action (i.e. a one-time meeting without clear next steps). 

Funding could be used in any number of ways that address the award objectives, including a combination of any of the following examples:  

• a meeting to gather a group of new, interdisciplinary collaborators at UBC with the goal of drafting a funding proposal, research project, or impactful paper; 

• creation of multimedia or arts-based resources to communicate / distribute climate-solutions research findings to new audiences;  

• host a community meeting to develop research questions;  

• host a workshop to develop a white paper, opinion piece, or other specific deliverable;  

• develop resources that share research to the user community (policy reports, etc.); or  

• support collaboration between technical/domain experts and engagement specialists (arts, policy, etc.).
