Solutions Scholars Project Pitch Event

April 16, 2024, 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm

Room 102, Michael Smith Laboratories, UBCV and Zoom

This past spring, the Collective solicited ideas from the research community for projects that could be completed by the next round of Solutions Scholars.  After a successful call, eight projects have advanced to a pitch session which will be open to the UBC community.

Please join us!

1:45pm to 2:00pm: Doors open
2:00pm to 3:40pm: Project Pitches
3:40pm to 4:00pm: Networking and Refreshments
4:00pm: Successful Pitches Announced

What to expect from the pitch event

Similar to an “accelerator” style event, teams of applicants pitch their projects to a panel of judges and others from the climate research community at UBC. Each applicant team will have five minutes to present their project, followed by five to seven minutes of questions. Questions from the audience will be collected through Slido and may be used by the panel during the pitch session.

Following the pitches, there will be refreshments and networking while the panel determines the selected projects. The panel will provide supportive feedback to all of the project teams. By the end of the event, three to four projects will be selected.

This isn’t Shark Tank: the objective here is to help each team realize their goals, regardless of whether their project is selected for the program.

Who should attend?

This event is open to everyone interested in climate research at UBC.  We invite the UBC community to come together in the spirit of collaboration and the goal of advancing climate solutions through research.

We encourage in-person participation at the UBC campus. A Zoom link will be available for those members of the UBC community who are off-campus, particularly those in the Okanagan campus. We will also collect questions through Slido so that all participants can submit questions equally.
