Climate Change and Human Mobilities: COP30 Conversations with Dr. Kathryn McConnell
December 5, 2025, 11:00 am to 12:30 pm
How are questions of human mobility – including migration, displacement, and planned relocation – being addressed in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of Parties (UNFCCC COP)? Dr. Kathryn McConnell (UBC Department of Sociology) will share her observations and reflections on this question following the culmination of the most recent COP30 in Brazil.
Dr Kathryn McConnell is an assistant professor in UBC’s Department of Sociology, where she researches the intersection of climate hazards, the built environment, and population mobility. During fall of 2025, Kathryn served as one of UBC’s designated observers to the UNFCCC COP30.
